Last weekend I attended an event that keeps getting bigger every year, the Big Apple Block Party. It’s a huge two-day backyard barbecue held in Madison Square Park each summer and this Summer marks the 13th year.

I’ve attended for the last 5 years and it’s a family-friendly happening that brings out the heavy hitters in the cooking arena and not exclusive to barbecue, desserts and special beverages make an appearance as well.
The most popular barbecue restaurants from around the country bring their mobile pits to the park and get ready for the onslaught of foodies from the tri-state area for the two days.

From 11 am to 6 pm that weekend, NYC becomes all about the barbecue. If you are a fan of Food Network, Cooking Channel, you’ve heard of these pitmasters/restaurants before now. The park is completely surrounded by two blocks with different stalls of barbecue, a beer garden, music performance stage, and desserts, which I didn’t get.

Even though I came at the tail end of the Saturday afternoon festivities, I was able to snag an order of lamb brisket and beans.

Next year I’ll plan to arrive earlier so I can enjoy all food and desserts at the Big Apple Block Party. Do you love barbecue or BBQ? Which one is it, BBQ or barbecue or barbeque? Do you have similar events where you live? Let me know in the comments below, I’d love to hear about it.
Until our next rendezvous…

Sounds like a fun time In England we have foodie festivals which sound similar, but not confined to BBQ, there’s all sorts. Lots of fun!
We have many, like specializing in beer, whiskey, Asian food, Japanese Ramen, French, taste of the world.. And general streets fairs every weekend. There’s so much to keep up with that I usually can’t. This is a food city!!
