If you want to travel the world and see everything in all of its glory then you are not alone. Hundreds of people make the decision to do this every single year and it is a great experience. If you want to get the best result out of it however then you do need to make sure that you take into account the area that you are visiting and the modes of transportation that are present. For example, if you are wanting to see all of the sights then a sight-seeing tour may be the best option, but that doesn’t mean that’s your only option.
Sightseeing

If you wanted to sight-see then you have the option of a jump-on tour or you can easily go by foot. This is a great way for you to keep the cost down and it also means that you have complete control over your entire journey as well. If you feel as though these aren’t going to work for you then you can easily rent a bike and take the city streets in your own stride. This is one of the best ways for you to really get out there and see everything, not to mention that you can stop off at any time in some of the local cafes or diners.
Trains
If you need to get from one area to another then it may be worth you trying to get on at the subway station. When you do this, you can easily go from sight to sight, while also taking in the local scenery. This is a great way for you to see everything in a very short space of time and the stations are very easy for you to find your way around as well. When you do catch the train, you can also find out more about the tourist hotspots. If you don’t want to catch a train then why not check out this Lyft driver app guide to find out more about that alternative method of travel.

Taxi
Another method of travel is to flag down a taxi. There are rules regarding the taxis in New York and it does help to talk to them before you agree to hire their services so you can make sure that you have everything you need. Of course, if you are concerned about the registration of a taxi or anything else of the sort then you have nothing to worry about. Taxis in New York City really are some of the safest around and it is also the most reliable and safest method of travel. You won’t have any problems if you get one of the iconic cabs that are in the area and it is a great way for you to go and take that impulsive trip that you never thought possible.
Ferry
I almost forgot to include my favorite scenic way to see the city and it is by water. New York City is it’s most beautiful from the water. You will get picture-postcard Instagram pics on a daily basis. And you’ll skip out on all the traffic jams, that has to be the best part! You can see my collection of picks here.
So as you can see, there really are plenty of ways for you to get around NYC and the method of travel you take really will depend on what you want to see. Either way, NYC is a great experience and you’d be surprised at how easy it is for you to take everything in.
What ways do you get around the city? Have you ever taken a yellow cab as a tourist? How was your experience? Tell me all about it in the comments.
what I’d do is invite Miss Trudy to an fun filled afternoon of sightseeing by opening up my wallet and paying for everything. 🙂
Such a gentleman!!
😉
I probably would just hire a taxi because i am so damn lazy lol
I don’t think you’d get to see much of the city that way, lol.
That is so true haha.
I’ve been to New York twice. Subway isn’t as scary as I thought it would be. We walked as much as possible, got a taxi occasionally, used the hop on hop off tour buses too.
My feet! My favorite way is to walk because NYC is so flat. I live in CT and anywhere I walk in my town requires walking up and down hills. When I get to NY it is such a joy to just walk. Plus you get a closer up view of everything.
I agree with walking. Although, if you are walking in lower Manhattan, I agree that it’s pretty level but uptown Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens arent as much. There are definite inclines in those areas. My feel hurt from wearing the wrong shoes yesterday. Lol!
I am a walker myself. I think if I went back I would do one of those double dekker bus sightseeing tours so I could jump on and off inconvenient and I see everything I want to visit. The ferry does look awesome!
The ferry is amazing and its very cool during the summer heat!
I love to walk around a city – London, Rome … and New York would be no different. My daughter stayed just outside New York City (in New Jersey) last month and she used the trains to get around as the trains were close & convenient. 😊
It’s the best way to get around if you aren’t using your feet!
I haven’t been to NYC in about 20 years. It is on my list of places to visit again thanks to your blog posts 🙂
New York is on my bucket list. Great post!
Thank you!
Now that I think about it, I don’t think I ever HAVE taken a yellow cab in NYC – always train to, and then subway around once I’m there (if not on foot) 🙂
It’s definitely a luxury that I’ve only rarely used. But at least I get watch news and weather when I’m riding in one.
