How To Become A More Grateful Person

gratitude, grateful

Being a grateful person is possible for everyone reading this. Everyone in the world can be more grateful for life and the things it throws our way. Whether we experience good or bad things, we should find gratitude in everything as everything happens for a reason.

If you are someone that wants to be a more grateful person, here are some tips.

Connect with your roots and history

Sometimes, we need to connect to our roots to feel grounded, connected, and grateful.

For instance, rekindling your spirituality could be the answer to help you become a more grateful and caring person.

Reading a religious text like the Bible, Quran, Lotus Sutra, or Torah and attending religious events can help. It doesn’t even have to be what we conventionally think of as spiritual practice to spark your feeling of gratefulness, it can be as simple as peaceful meditation outdoors in nature. Anecdotally, spirituality is even mentioned in government documents as common practice, this is what the Declaration of Independence says about God. Understanding how your spirituality can help you connect with others on a deeper level, can help you become a more grateful person. Reaching out to elders in your family and questioning their habits and how they carry out their practices can make you closer to finding your answers as well. There is a fountain of knowledge just in familial ties.

When you connect with your roots and family history, it can help you gain a sense of presence and gratitude, which will certainly help on your journey

Pursue joyful hobbies

When we pursue hobbies, it gives us more purpose and helps us feel grateful for the skills and desires we have.

It is good to have great hobbies and get more from them. It is a good way to pass the time and distract yourself, without needing to think about life stresses (work, health, and more).

When you find something that helps you be present and feel more calm, you can gain gratitude for it. Whether you enjoy reading, cycling, or practicing your painting skills, having a joyful hobby to pursue during your time off will ensure you can feel more connected and grateful for life.

Appreciate everything in life

Another way to have more gratitude every day is to appreciate everything, big and small, bad or good.

When you start appreciating everything, you will appreciate even the small things in life. When you appreciate those small things in life, you will become a much more grateful person. For instance, feeling grateful for the morning sunlight passing through your room or the smell of your coffee can help you go through your day feeling a lot more joyful and grateful for everything that happens. You will find the good in bad situations and become a more caring and mindful person.

Keep a journal and journal daily

Keeping a journal is a great way to practice mindfulness and gratitude.

There you can write down your thoughts and feelings which can help you understand what it is you feel grateful for or want to achieve. Writing in a journal every day could start with writing down five things that you are grateful for, which could be anything from getting a new job, speaking to an old friend, or having an amazing dinner the night before.

Daily practices like this will ensure that you become a much more grateful person in the future for every gift, small or large. What practices do you do regularly to keep yourself grateful for your gifts? Let me know how you do it in the comments below.

Until our next rendezvous…

XOXO
