Really cool – I like how the cropping completely changes the focus of the shot. In the uncropped version, my eyes are drawn to the rowboat; the lake and the recreation on the lake is where my attention goes in that version. In the second version, the boats are cropped out and the lake is not where my attention goes at all. It’s a cityscape – a skyline shot. I prefer the first shot – the skyline is an interesting and unexpected backdrop to a photograph of summer recreation on a lake. The first one has a lot of character 🙂
I think I like the first one best too, the second one is more of a postcard, less personal. I appreciate the feedback. Thank you for stopping by.
Personally, I like them both. It’s mile seeing two very different views of the same “skyline.” Since the assignment was to focus on the landscape as the subject, you did the right thing by cropping out the rower. Overall, however, I also prefer the rower version. There’s something special about using the buildings so near yet so far from the park as a backdrop instead of the subject. Nice job on both!
Thanks a lot. I don’t get tired of using Central Park as a subject for pictures, such beautiful landscapes everywhere you look.
