Rendezvous At Spice

Rendezvous at Spice in Brooklyn, NYC

Two weeks ago, I planned to meet my ruggedly lovely relative Jean to blog about a Bastille Day event in downtown Brooklyn on Smith street that he said he enjoyed a couple of years back. I love when people look out and give me things to blog about. He raved about going to this event before and how I would get good pics for the post. We walked block after block down Smith and saw no event. I checked my phone and searched and nothing came up for that part of town, it was a bust. But we made the best of it and found a restaurant and I was graciously treated to lunch at Spice.

Spice is a chain of Thai restaurants, that has been in New York for about twenty years, it led the wave of trendy Thai food here. And it has been one my choices for the amazing prices on the lunch special. We were promptly seated and the decor is minimal and industrial but I like it.

Since I love Thai food, the four-page menu gave me a lot to think about and it was hard choosing. The restaurant has a lot of vegetarian and vegan choice as well so all special diets can enjoy.

Appetizer of Spring Rolls and Shrimp Fritters

My spring rolls were so flaky and delicious that I would’ve ordered two more, every bite had a crisp snap. The vegetables inside weren’t greasy at all but steamed just right from the frying. The shrimp fritters were plump and the sweet sauce had the right amount of chili heat to balance it out.

For the entrée order, I requested the Drunk man noodles, which is a stir fry dish, with thick broad noodles peppers, chilies, egg, onions, and Thai basil. DEE-LISH-US!! It really hit the spot and this dish is something that I could eat almost every day. Just yum!

Jean ordered the Home-style Beef Panang, which is thinly sliced beef simmered with kaffir lime spicy salty sauce and served with rice. It’s sort of Thai beef stew.

I have to admit that I wasn’t full and I think it was because I was so terribly hungry and hadn’t eaten breakfast that day, but I wanted to be a lady at the table.

An order of Drunk Man Noodles for me and Homestyle Beef Panang for Jean

So I ordered dessert and what of it ?? I chose a crème brûlée, with two spoons and it was the perfect way to end the meal.

  1. I love Thai food! This place sounds delicious! We have a Thai food cart nearby, where they make the best Thai eggplant I’ve ever eaten. Plus their hot-sauce is to die for! Now I’m getting hungry.

            1. Another New York blogger recently went to the Bramble and did a post on it. I am more aware of the different birds around me now, listening to their calls and such. Even though I live by the coast, I noticed that there’s a protected nesting area on the beach. I took a picture and it’s on my Instagram, you can see it from my sidebar.

  2. I love Thai food. Thanks for your photos which made me drool. We went to four or five Thai places on Long Island and liked them all. I should explain that “we” includes my daughter and me. She and I had lovely dining experiences when she lived with us for six years. She is now in Denmark. My son and I had Thai food once in NC. If only we could persuade John that he would like foreign food!

    1. You should start with some curry puffs or a fried rice for John. It’s hard when you have an adventurous palate and your partner isn’t?

    2. Maybe he could try curry puffs or a fried rice? Isn’t it hard when you have an adventurous palate and your partner isn’t as willing?

What do you think? I would like to know.
