A sobering thought for your Monday. We're all tightening our belts in the face of crazy food prices, well at least the people I know are at this time.
This plate of avocado toast with a fried egg, that I had as a quick meal today would cost, no lie, between $15-30 depending on the restaurant and whether you add an egg or not in NYC.
The price difference of eggs 🥚and bread 🍞and avocado 🥑in the past year and a half is crazy 💸. Have you noticed these skyrocketing prices for these items specifically? Are you feeling the pinch when you go shopping? Let's chat. 😁

Happy new year 2023! This past week has been an experience, a very familiar one actually. I played tour guide yet again to family that was visiting NYC. They're ridiculously lucky as we all know. It didn't cost them anything but train fare and they got expert advice. This whole tour guide thing might be a lucrative venture. How do you entertain your visiting family members?

My love for coffee goes so hard that I crave it even after dinner. Nothing else has the comforting feeling like coffee. I attribute my love for coffee to my Caribbean heritage, I grew up with @cafebustelo espresso and now nothing else will do. I can drink my coffee black, right before bed and still fall asleep. That's from drinking it with condensed milk as a child. Anybody else have this problem?

Two years ago the last public place I traveled to

Two years ago the last public place I traveled to was Grand Central Terminal a week before lockdown in NYC. Maybe, I'm just overly sensitive but it's feeling a bit like the city is reliving 2019 all over again but with blessing of testing and vaccinations.
The daily positive tests record breaking of over 20,000 this week really establishes that we as a society haven't learned much. And that's depressing.
The fact that the death of 800,000 people hasn't changed habits or people haven't tried to center others in their thinking is sobering. And this apathy is not just a NYC thing but a worldwide phenomenon. Believe me I understand pandemic fatigue but being fatigued is better than hospitalized in my mind.
I'm not saying that we shouldn't live life and stay in place forever, please don't misunderstand. We have to get the economy back on track and all that. But are we doing it safely and causing the least amount of harm while existing? Anyway, for me it's just been a week of deep thoughts.

Have you ever noticed, that when you have visitors from out of town and you play tour guide that, you appreciate your city all over again?⠀

🗽Seeing NYC through fresh eyes and answering those questions are is something I actually enjoy.⠀
⠀
🗽Walking through the streets while cases are rising and finding open spaces to sightsee safely is another aspect. So it also takes planning.⠀
⠀
🗽Have you tried to sightsee while restrictions have been lifted? What precautions are you currently taking? As cases are rising again are you planning to fall back from your trips or are doing it with YOLO in mind? Are we still using YOLO?⠀

🗽I got to see a very empty Oculus and @onewtc from the ground of course (heights aversion) while almost empty by going later in the evening while tourists were in Times Square.
🗽I'm also using less crowded modes of transportation so that I can safely socially distance like @NYCferry and if I get luck you can time it to the sunset and get a bonus. ⠀

🏖️The beaches are open, well except this particular one because there was no lifeguard on duty. But people are still taking their chances. You can get here with a short ride on the A to your spot on the sand.
